In the Aria of Abigaille in Nabucco, Elena Kononenko proved with her imposing, interesting, round, exceptional and luscious voice, that one can actually sing this piece, and not as it is usually done, scream it. She mastered all the technical challenges of this aria. If anything, perhaps such an endlessly long piece extrapolated the frame of the evening, but by no means, the capacity of this excellent singer.

With her wonderfully warm and round voice she filled the Kunsthalle with the tones of Bellini´s masterpiece, "Casta Diva", enchanted as the vulnerable and fatally-ill Mimi, shone as Leonora in Verdi´s "La Forza del Destino" and "Il Trovatore" and conquered the audience with Wagner´s highly-dramatic "Dich theure Halle" from "Tannhäuser" with the sheer power of her voice. Ringing middle-voice, brilliant coloraturas, penetrating expression: when she sings, she is really like Callas.

Elena Kononenko mastered the role of Tosca from both the dramatic and vocal standpoints, a deed not to be taken for granted in the opera field. Her aria "Vissi d´arte" was a moment of exceptional vocal beauty.
Soprano Elena Kononenko demonstrated convincing vocal dramaticism, without any hint of forcing or shrill tone production.

…magically sung by the vocally and dramatically strong Elena Kononenko…
(Emder Zeitung, about Tosca)
The star of the evening was Elena Kononenko: one of those singers from the East, who possess simply all the requirements for a world-career. The Kononenko was a Violetta such as the real Dame of the Camelias: she acted with much temperament and girl-like sex-appeal, transforming herself throughout the evening into a tender tregediènne. Her voice has personal charm, is secure in all registers, blooming wonderfully in the high-notes with a light metallic shine. In the final scene she achieved a level of human truthfulness, reaching far beyond the level of beautiful singing.
